Excellent critique. The term ‘smart contract’ is not accurate. They are virtual agents, scripted to run tasks autonomously. Smart contracts are different types of agents on different blockchains. In Ethereum, they are usually the counterparty in a transaction and are emancipated by default. In Stellar, they tend to be listing agents and are enslaved by default.

Also crypto isn’t money either. That meme is equally as problematic as the smart contract meme. Crypto is always a record in other people’s databases of the event of the exchange of some currency (social connections, materials, natural resources, money, ideas, knowledge, action, inention, karma, song, story, ritual, etc) for some other currency.
